Not that long ago it was almost impossible to find live music in Naples. A really live band that is, with more than just a singer and a karaoke machine. But everything changes and live music is making a comeback.
Here are two of my favorite live music venues in Naples where local musicians play almost every night. You can even dance!
Fred’s Diner is a small restaurant that has been a lively gathering spot in North Naples for years. Fred is the family dog (long gone now) but he still is the restaurant mascot.
No frills no fuss, Fred’s Diner serves good American food — baby back ribs, meatloaf, great fried chicken for the appetite you’ll work up tapping your toes and dancing your shoes off on the dance floor.
There is a different live band here every night except Monday, and the quality of the music is amazing.
Seems Naples is full of retired professional musicians who play here for fun.
Alto’s is the newest venue in downtown Naples. Charles Mereday, the owner/chef at Mereday’s, an upscale restaurant across the street, opened Alto’s a few months ago in Bayfront, the mixed-use, residential/commercial development just north of the Gordon River Bridge.
Primarily a jazz club, there is live music here every night except Monday, when they are closed. This is a much larger restaurant than Fred’s Diner with a real stage and a real menu. There are lots of small plates to nibble on if you don’t want a full dinner.
The quality of music in both venues is outstanding.
