Summer Fun at Barbatella

I’ve always loved to paint but I’m not very good. I’ve always loved to eat and I can do that pretty well. So when Barbatella restaurant invited me to their Art Experience night last week I thought okay maybe the Italian food and wine might loosen up my inner Picasso.art experience

Barbatella is the fun and casual Italian restaurant on Third Street South in Old Naples that is always cooking up good food and fun ideas for dinner. They sponsor a fabulous Opera Night with opera singers that stroll between the tables singing arias, a spooky Halloween party, wine tasting dinners, local comedians and live music, lots of fun cooking classes, and now painting nights. My masterpiece!

My masterpiece!

For $45 Masterpiece Mixers provides you with a fresh canvas and all the paint colors you need on a palette, plus the brushes and most importantly a lively instructor to guide you in the creation of your own masterpiece. Barbatella supplies the wine and appetizers. And if you stay for dinner you get 30% off your meal.

The night I went there was a group of young women who worked together, some couples and a mother and daughter combo. And me. Our instructor Beatriz Newnam, the owner of Masterpiece Mixers, did her best to lead us in the creation of our own tropical beach scene. The students got increasingly rowdy and hard to instruct as the evening wore on but everyone was in good humor and it was surprising to see the final canvases all on display together.

What could be more fun on a warm summer evening in Naples than good wine, great food and painting a masterpiece? Well two out of three ain’t bad.
