A New Option in Midtown Naples

Sharon Kenny, whereshouldweeat@yahoo.com; 12:20 a.m. EDT April 9, 2014 Naples has many good restaurants, but they tend to be concentrated downtown or, more recently, in the northern area. The middle part, around Golden Gate, has been sparse territory for food except for some chain restaurants. Yet it’s not for lack of demand. USS Nemo is one of the few great ...

Cooking Classes at Barbatella

Last weekend I sat in on a cooking class at Barbatella. Chef Dario Leo was demonstrating how to make an Italian rice salad and arancia – basically risotto rice balls stuffed with a ragu then fried golden brown. Oh yes they were very very good.

With it’s hip yet intimate intimate decor, Bar Tulia was inspired by the European “eating bars” and “hangouts,” where friends and family mingle over small plates and a glass of wine. Acclaimed Chef Vincenzo ...

Hobnobbing is Encouraged

It’s hard to imagine that there was any type of restaurant missing in Naples but the new HobNob Kitchen & Bar seems to have found a unique niche. Hobnob means to socialize or mingle and that’s just what owner Michael Hernandez is attempting to encourage. He calls his new restaurants a bohemian kind of place, and it reminds me of ...

Farm to Table – Eat Local!

The Farm to Table or “eat local” movement is very popular in restaurants around the world, but has been implemented in a very limited way in Naples. Until now. Basically the two movements are exactly as advertised, eating locally grown food, which means less impact on the environment through transporting food over long distances, supporting local farmers (usually organic farmers), ...
